Creatives in Schools
Taitoko kanikani collective
BalletCollective Aotearoa was thrilled to team up with Waiopehu College in Levin as part of the Ministry of Education Creatives in Schools initiative in 2023. Two terms' worth of workshops with both Waiopehu College's NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 dance and drama students culminated in a performance at the college where both the students and the artists from BCA performed together onstage. It was a very special time of shared learning, exchange, and mentoring, with hugely positive outcomes for both the students and the BCA artists. From the early planning stages of the project Waiopehu College and BCA planned to offset our carbon footprint with all the travelling from Pōneke to Taitoko (Levin). We planted a number of native trees and grasses on college grounds as a memento of our fabulous collective mahi. BalletCollective Aotearoa was proud to be among the first Creatives in Schools projects to offer dance, choreography, drama, verbatim theatre and professional collaboration. Culminating our shared project in a professional performance in the school auditorium was a highlight of our project. |
